Only 45 minutes from Innisfail, Behana Gorge is an awesome place to spend a day hiking through rainforest, swimming in a crystal clear mountain stream and enjoying a picnic lunch.
Behana Gorge is a 3.5km hike along a well-defined path - some of the hills are steep and challenging so good walking shoes are recommended.
Be sure to bring plenty of water - especially during summertime.
At the end of the hike, you will be treated to spectacular views of the gorge and an amazing waterfall.
There are many swimming opportunities in the gorge with the pool below the waterfall at the top being a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike.
The challenging hike up means that you will often be the only ones there enjoying this magical place!
Care must be take in the wet season (October to April) as the water can be flowing quite quickly and also may rise quickly if there is rain upstream.
